Autonomous battery charging system for pleasure boats
Port of La Baule-Le Pouliguen, France

Site presentation
The Port authorities of La Baule-Le Pouliguen wished to set up a battery charging solution for pleasure boats in its marina. The port authorities were looking for an autonomous solution using renewable energy that blends in with landscaped surroundings of this tourist location.
The turnkey Wattway PACK boat charging solution was deployed to meet these requirements.
How the
system works
The system consists of twelve 125 Wp/panel photovoltaic modules (generation 2022) and a secure electrical cabinet. The modules are installed on top of the pontoon. They convert solar energy into electricity during the day.
The electrical cabinet is installed near the modules and contains the electrical equipment needed to convert and store the energy to supply electrically powered boats.
When there are no boats to charge, the surplus energy generated is fed back into the grid for the Port.
Why did La Baule-Le Pouliguen
choose Wattway PACK?
Wattway PACK makes it possible to install charging points and provide services on isolated sites in energy blackspots or areas with difficult grid access. This is all the more useful due to its seasonal nature, with peak power generation occurring at the same time as the peak use of boats.
Franck Louvrier, Mayor of La Baule, shared his experience: "Wattway is an excellent way to encourage the installation of renewable energy. Because they are fixed to the ground, Wattway solar panels are weather-resistant, visually unobtrusive and provide energy on a short supply chain. As a local authority, it’s up to us to get the ball rolling early to shift boating to electric power. The town of La Baule is at the forefront of innovation, particularly in the water sports sector, where we welcome this technological innovation.”
Norbert Samama, Mayor of Le Pouliguen, added: "We have a shared commitment to sustainable tourism. The purpose is to improve the quality of the area while caring for the environment. La Baule and Le Pouliguen both have the Blue Label and we’re looking to the future to continue our commitment in this direction.”
